Chennai, Oct 9 (NationPress) The Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagenthran has issued a warning regarding the potential danger to C. Joseph Vijay, chief of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) and actor, should he decide to return to Karur. This caution follows the tragic crowd surge that resulted in the deaths of 41 individuals during his campaign rally on September 27.
While addressing the media at the BJP office in Tirunelveli, Nagenthran remarked, “If Vijay goes to Karur now, there will be another backlash. His life will not be safe. During the Karur rally, 41 people were trampled and crushed to death. He has already sought police protection, saying his life is under threat and has filed a complaint regarding it.”
The BJP leader's comments come in light of reports indicating that Vijay's team has sought approval from the Director General of Police (DGP) through the Director of Health and Administration (DHA) to visit Karur and meet the families of the victims.
In response, the DGP's office has reportedly directed that the request be submitted to the district Superintendent of Police for approval.
Nagenthran took the opportunity to criticize the DMK government, alleging that it tends to file cases against victims rather than offering support. “The people of Tamil Nadu are uniting for a change in government. Numerous political forces will coalesce to oppose this regime,” he stated.
Quoting distressing statistics, he continued, “In Tamil Nadu, 283 POCSO cases have been recorded. Atrocities against young girls persist without restraint. This government has failed to safeguard women and children.”
He also expressed skepticism about the State Election Commission’s readiness for the forthcoming Assembly elections scheduled for next year. “The Election Commission is meant to be an independent entity. Elections must occur before April 10 next year. What kind of calendar is the Prime Minister referring to for that?” he quipped.
Vijay, who shared a video expressing sorrow over the loss of life three days post the Karur tragedy, is reportedly eager to visit the area and comfort the grieving families. However, authorities have recommended caution, citing possible law and order issues.
