K.C. Venugopal Urges CM Vijayan to Address Siddaramaiah’s Proposal for Wayanad

Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 10 (NationPress) Congress General Secretary and Alappuzha Congress MP K.C. Venugopal expressed strong disapproval regarding Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s indifferent reaction to the initiative proposed by his Karnataka counterpart Siddaramaiah, which involves the construction of 100 houses for individuals who lost their homes in the devastating landslide incident in Wayanad last July.
Reports surfaced in local media on Tuesday, highlighting that the Kerala government has not acknowledged Siddaramaiah’s correspondence dated December 9.
“It is troubling that we have yet to receive any communication from the government of Kerala concerning the necessary guidelines or directions to expedite the implementation of this project, which hinders our commitment to moving forward,” Siddaramaiah’s letter stated.
Venugopal lamented the unfortunate reality that neither Vijayan nor any of his officials have reached out to the Karnataka government.
“We heard Vijayan’s accusations against the Centre for the delays in the release of the Wayanad package that the Kerala government requested. However, we are eager to understand the reason behind the chilly reception towards the proposal made by Karnataka,” Venugopal remarked.
Previously, Vijayan had criticized Union Home Minister Amit Shah for the delay in providing a special package for the rehabilitation of Wayanad landslide victims.
“This is the most catastrophic event the state has faced, yet the Centre is shirking its responsibilities. Shah claims that funds have not been released due to Kerala’s slow response. However, all their allegations against the state lack merit,” the Chief Minister asserted.
Venugopal also pointed out that when Telangana faced challenges and sought assistance, the Karnataka government stepped in to help, which was duly accepted by Telangana.
“I fail to comprehend why the Kerala government has not acted as Telangana did,” Venugopal added.
Meanwhile, Congress MLA T. Siddique from Kalpetta in Wayanad noted that no one understands why the Kerala government is not facilitating the reconstruction of the four villages that were devastated.
“This prolonged delay is a significant obstacle, as numerous sponsors, both large and small, who have shown willingness to assist in rebuilding the lives of the affected victims are becoming increasingly impatient,” Siddique stated.
