Kejriwal Presents 3,000 Pages of Evidence on Voter Deletions; EC Commits to Investigate

New Delhi, Dec 11 (NationPress) A delegation of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), headed by its National Convener Arvind Kejriwal, on Wednesday engaged with the Election Commission, providing a 3,000-page document as proof of the alleged removal of voters' names from the electoral rolls in anticipation of the upcoming Assembly elections in the national Capital. He voiced concerns regarding a conspiracy to systematically eliminate voters' names in Delhi Assembly constituencies and received a commitment of due diligence from the electoral body.

“We have submitted a 3,000-page document to the Election Commission and raised alarms about the deletion of voters’ names from the electoral rolls. The affected individuals are primarily underprivileged groups, including Dalits and slum dwellers, whose names are being removed. We have provided the complete data to the Election Commission,” Kejriwal stated.

Additionally, he reached out to Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar, alleging extensive irregularities in the voter deletion applications.

Referencing a case from the Shahdara Assembly constituency, Kejriwal mentioned, “We have learned that over the last six weeks, the BJP has submitted requests to remove 11,018 voters based on claims of relocation or death. However, these lists are being altered without being posted on the Election Commission’s website.”

Kejriwal pointed out that as of December 5, only 487 deletion applications from Shahdara were visible on the Commission’s website. This inconsistency raises significant concerns about the remaining applications and the overall transparency of the process.

He further alleged that the AAP conducted its own examination by visiting 500 randomly chosen addresses from the BJP's list. The investigation found that 372 of these individuals were still living at their registered addresses.

Kejriwal called on the Election Commission to dismiss the BJP's applications for the deletion of the 11,000 voter names and demanded that an FIR be filed against the Booth Level Agents (BLAs) involved.

He also insisted on disciplinary measures against election officials in Shahdara who allegedly handled these applications without following due diligence or making the process publicly transparent.

Expressing worries that similar activities could be occurring in other areas, Kejriwal urged for an investigation into all voter deletion applications submitted by BLAs, emphasizing the need for public disclosure and FIRs against those breaching electoral regulations.

He specified various alleged malpractices throughout Delhi in his letter and shared information from other Assembly segments.

Kejriwal noted that in Janakpuri, 24 BJP workers submitted requests to delete 4,874 votes; in Tughlakabad, 15 BJP workers filed to remove 2,435 voters; in Palam, 9 BJP workers sought deletion of 1,641 voters; in Rajouri Garden, 6 BJP workers aimed to remove 571 voters; in Hari Nagar, 4 BJP workers sought deletion of 637 votes; in Karawal Nagar, 2 BJP workers applied for the removal of 3,260 votes; and in Mustafabad, a BJP official sought 534 voter deletions.

Kejriwal labeled these alleged actions as a systematic effort to disenfranchise voters and undermine the democratic process.

He mentioned that the Election Commission of India assured him there would be no mass deletions ahead of the elections. Their officials will investigate any requests to delete the names of more than five individuals, and the SDM will conduct on-site inspections.

Kejriwal stated that the Election Commission also promised that an FIR would be lodged against those engaged in fraudulent voter deletions.
