New Delhi, Feb 2 (NationPress) Congress treasurer Ajay Maken on Sunday criticized the AAP government and its leader Arvind Kejriwal, revealing the ‘false’ education and transport models that the party continually boasts about during elections.
During a press conference at the DPCC office, the former Union Minister pointed out that the AAP government is unique in being the only administration globally where the Education and Excise Minister is the same individual—Manish Sisodia.
He remarked, “The same individual presented himself as an education reformer while engaging in the liquor scam.”
Maken noted that the citizens of Delhi have become fully aware of Kejriwal's fake models and are now ready to support Congress in the upcoming elections on February 5.
He emphasized that the populace still trusts the development model initiated under Sheila Dikshit’s Congress government, asserting that Congress will address every concern of Delhi residents once back in power.
Maken expressed astonishment at the decline in student admissions in government schools despite an increasing population, with fewer students completing Class XI.
He elaborated on the educational and environmental issues under AAP's governance, stating that his revelations would deal a significant blow to the corrupt administration that has been in power for 11 years.
“In the Congress administration for 2008-09, 75,974 students passed the 12th Board Exams, and this number rose to 147,420 when Congress left office in 2013-14. However, under AAP, the number fell to 116,792 in 2015-16 and further decreased to 109,098 in 2019-20,” he highlighted.
He further indicated that under Congress in 2013-14, 166,257 students took the 12th Board Exams, while that figure plummeted to 151,429 under AAP in 2023-24, failing to rise with the Capital's growing population.
“In 2013-14, 17.75 lakh students were enrolled in government schools compared to 13.57 lakh in private institutions. By 2018-19, private school enrollment surged to 16.61 lakh while government school enrollment fell to 16.47 lakh, showcasing Kejriwal’s ‘model of education’,” he claimed, criticizing the much-lauded education policy.
Ajay Maken also challenged the Delhi government regarding transport and pollution levels.
He pointed out that Delhi sees around 1,800 new vehicles added to the roads daily, with these vehicles being the primary source of the toxic air pollution. He attributed the rise in private vehicles to a decrease in the passenger capacity of DTC.
“When Congress was in power in 2012-13, DTC served 46.77 lakh passengers daily, but this number dropped to 24.43 lakh by August 2024 under the AAP government. The DTC bus fleet decreased from 5,609 in 2012-13 to 4,541 in August 2024, and the number of DTC depots fell from 43 to 38,” he asserted.
Maken added that when Congress left power, there were 1,440 overaged buses in the DTC fleet, which surged to 2,866 under AAP, representing a 64.1 percent increase.
