Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 13 (NationPress) - On Saturday, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor adopted a strikingly bipartisan approach while commenting on the results of the Kerala local body elections. He congratulated the Congress-led UDF for its remarkable victories throughout the state while also offering praise for the BJP’s groundbreaking success in the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation.

Tharoor’s statements are noteworthy, especially following his recent commendations of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his attendance at the official dinner for the visiting Russian President Vladimir Putin—an event that senior Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and party president Mallikarjun Kharge, did not attend.

In an extensive post on X, Tharoor characterized the election results as “a day of extraordinary outcomes,” emphasizing that the mandate was evident and showcased the democratic essence of Kerala.

He acknowledged the UDF’s performance as a “truly impressive win” across multiple local bodies, describing the results as a “significant endorsement” and an important indication ahead of the Assembly elections next year.

Tharoor attributed the enhanced results compared to 2020 to diligent efforts, a clear political message, and strong anti-incumbency sentiments against the ruling Left Front, which has been in power since 2016.

Moreover, he recognized the BJP’s significant breakthrough in the state capital, offering “humble congratulations” for its notable victory in the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation. He termed the BJP’s performance “historic,” signifying a substantial shift in the political dynamics of the state capital.

Importantly, Tharoor highlighted that he had campaigned for a transition from what he termed “45 years of LDF misrule,” yet noted that voters in his area chose a different party promising significant changes in governance.

“This illustrates the beauty of democracy,” he stated, emphasizing that the electorate's decision must be respected—whether it favored the UDF statewide or the BJP in Thiruvananthapuram.

Tharoor’s remarks are anticipated to provoke political discussions within Congress, given his readiness to publicly commend a BJP victory amid heightened partisanship.

He reaffirmed his dedication to advancing Kerala's welfare, championing the needs of the populace, and maintaining the principles of good governance. “We will persist in our efforts for Kerala’s betterment, advocating for the people's needs and upholding good governance principles. Onwards and upwards!” he declared.
