Olympian P.R. Sreejesh, a general education officer and two-time Olympic medalist, along with cardiologist Jose Chacko Periyapuram, have both received the Padma Bhushan.
K. Omanakutty Amma, an 81-year-old academic and music educator, has been honored with the Padma Shri.
Amma expressed her delight at receiving this prestigious award, stating, “I owe it to my parents and my teacher. In the past, I thought I might receive this honor, but as time passed, I lost hope. Now, it's an unexpected joy.” Omanakutty's two brothers include the late M.G. Radhakrishnan, a respected musician, and M.G. Sreekumar, a popular singer in Malayalam cinema.
I.M. Vijayan, former captain of the Indian football team and now an Assistant Commandant in the Kerala Police, celebrated his Padma Shri nomination with a cake. “I owe this to all my football fans. I had been on the waiting list for a long time, and I finally received it just before my retirement. I’m elated!” he shared.
