Thiruvananthapuram, April 14 (NationPress) In a significant setback for Kerala's Additional Director General of Police M.R. Ajithkumar, a known ally of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, state police chief Sheikh Darvesh Saheb has submitted a report on Monday suggesting that a case should be filed against him for allegedly providing a false statement.
The report presented to CM Vijayan indicates that both civil and criminal actions could be initiated against Ajithkumar due to his false claims regarding ADGP P. Vijayan.
Ajithkumar accused his colleague of having ties with a gold smuggling gang. Following this allegation, ADGP Vijayan lodged a formal complaint with the police chief, prompting an investigation.
Darvesh Saheb undertook the investigation and ultimately submitted a report exonerating Vijayan while recommending disciplinary measures against Ajithkumar.
With a case now suggested for filing against Ajithkumar, it remains uncertain whether this will hinder his ambitions to succeed as the next police chief when Darvesh Saheb retires on May 31.
Coincidentally, P.V. Anvar, a two-time legislator who was elected as a CPI-M supported independent in January, resigned following the dismissal of his complaints against Ajithkumar and his call for an investigation by both CPI-M state Secretary M.V. Govindan and CM Vijayan.
Currently, Anvar has shifted his allegiance to the Congress-led UDF and has committed support to the Congress candidate for the upcoming Nilambur assembly by-election.
Anvar has also expressed skepticism about the police chief's report, claiming it will be overlooked, as Ajithkumar is regarded by CM Vijayan as his 'third son'.
“Anyone who believes that action will be taken based on this report is living in a fool’s paradise,” he remarked.
Ajithkumar attracted attention last year when it was revealed that he met with senior RSS leaders during their visits to the state on two occasions, a situation that sparked considerable controversy raised by the Leader of Opposition.
