Kolkata, Oct 6 (NationPress) The health status of BJP MP Khagen Murmu is currently stable as he receives medical care at a Siliguri hospital following an attack earlier today.
Alongside the BJP MP, BJP MLA Shankar Ghosh is also receiving treatment at the same Siliguri facility after being injured in the incident.
West Bengal's Leader of the Opposition, Suvendu Adhikari, has announced his intention to visit the injured MP on Tuesday, expressing his prayers for a swift recovery.
"The vicious assault on our MP Shri Khagen Murmu and MLA Shankar Ghosh in Nagrakata today has resulted in serious injuries. This despicable act perpetrated by TMC goons occurred while they were on their way to assist flood-affected individuals in North Bengal," Adhikari stated.
"I beseech God for their quick recovery. I will visit them tomorrow to check on their condition and offer my support," Adhikari added.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is also in North Bengal overseeing rescue efforts and distributing compensation to those affected.
Earlier today, BJP Maldaha Uttar MP Khagen Murmu and MLA Shankar Ghosh were violently attacked by assailants while en route to meet those impacted by landslides in North Bengal and deliver aid.
While Ghosh suffered minor injuries, the two-time BJP MP sustained significant injuries to his face and head.
The attack occurred in Nagrakata, located in the Jalpaiguri district of North Bengal. The BJP MP was seen with blood covering his face due to a serious injury.
He was quickly transported to a primary health center for urgent care. The assailants also hurled stones at their vehicles and continued their assault with slippers, sticks, and bricks until security personnel intervened to escort them away.
In the aftermath of the attack, the BJP has accused the Trinamool Congress of orchestrating it and criticized Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for failing to protect an elected MP.
On Monday, Chief Minister Banerjee indirectly called on her party's supporters to practice restraint and uphold a spirit of harmony amidst the widespread natural disaster in North Bengal.
