FIR Filed Against Kharge Over Controversial Remarks Targeting BJP-RSS
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Guwahati, April 7 (NationPress) A complaint has been registered against Mallikarjun Kharge at the Basistha Police Station in Guwahati on Tuesday concerning purportedly incendiary comments made during a political rally in the Sribhumi district of Assam.
The grievance, submitted by Ranjib Kumar Sarmah, a spokesperson for the Assam BJP, alleges that while addressing a gathering in the Nilambazar area of the Sribhumi district on April 6, the Congress president made contentious remarks aimed at the ideologies upheld by the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.
The complaint claims that Kharge characterized the BJP and RSS ideologies as "poisonous" and compared them to a "poisonous snake."
Additionally, it is alleged that he suggested the necessity to eliminate the BJP, which the complaint describes as derogatory and potentially inciting unrest. The FIR asserts that such statements have offended the sentiments of BJP members and their supporters.
The complaint further accuses the senior Congress leader of fostering enmity among various groups, posing a threat to public peace and communal harmony in Assam, a state often viewed as politically and socially sensitive.
Sarmah has called upon law enforcement officials to take prompt and suitable legal measures, stressing that remarks of this nature could heighten tensions within communities and disrupt the current law and order situation.
Officials from the Basistha Police Station have acknowledged receipt of the complaint. They stated that the issue will be investigated in line with applicable legal provisions, and further actions will be determined based on the findings.
The 126-member Assam Legislative Assembly is set to conduct elections in a single phase on April 9, with vote counting scheduled for May 4.
