New Delhi, May 2 (NationPress) Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge utilized the platform of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) on Friday to criticize the government for its 'ambiguous' strategy following the Pahalgam attack. He acknowledged party leader Rahul Gandhi for achieving a significant moral victory that compelled the Centre to initiate a caste census.
During his address to the party's influential executive committee, Kharge reaffirmed Congress' commitment to combat terrorism while questioning the government's clarity on future actions.
“In the aftermath of the Pahalgam terrorist incident, we passed a resolution affirming our willingness to support the government in addressing terrorism and holding perpetrators accountable. Yet, even after a significant period, the government has not articulated a definitive strategy,” stated the Congress chief in a post shared on social media X.
Highlighting the government's decision to conduct a caste census, Kharge credited Rahul Gandhi for applying pressure on the Modi government to endorse his call for social justice.
“Rahul ji has once again demonstrated that when we address the concerns of the populace with sincerity, the government must yield. Following the withdrawal of the Land Acquisition Amendment Bill and the three contentious farm laws, the caste census has become another instance of a stubborn government conceding,” he expressed in his Hindi post.
Kharge also referred to Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra for advocating social justice.
“I commend Rahulji for consistently emphasizing this issue and compelling the government to take a stand on the caste census. Your efforts transformed it into a formidable campaign during the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, making social justice a pivotal topic in the 18th Lok Sabha elections,” he remarked.
Furthermore, he criticized the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) for allegedly obstructing the caste census process.
“The Modi government delayed the caste census due to the RSS's anti-reservation stance. However, as public support for Congress and allied parties increased on this issue, it became untenable for Modi ji to defer it any longer,” Kharge asserted.
Reflecting on the political contest to claim credit for the caste census decision and communicate it to the public, the Congress President stated, “We must devise our strategy. If necessary, we should collaborate with our allies and organize public meetings at either national or state levels, or even consider nationwide press conferences.”
