Has Priyank Kharge's Demand to Ban RSS Backfired?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Oct 13 (NationPress) In response to Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge's call for a ban on the activities of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on government property, BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal asserted on Monday that those who have attempted to suppress the RSS have met with total defeat.
This statement follows Kharge's letter to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah dated October 4, where he urged for a prohibition on RSS shakhas operating within government and government-funded schools as well as public spaces. Kharge claimed that these shakhas propagate slogans and ideologies that foster negative thoughts among children and youth, which contradict India's unity and the essence of the Constitution.
In an interview with IANS, Khandelwal remarked, “Anyone who has attempted to ban the RSS has been utterly destroyed. This reflects how low the Congress has fallen. The demise of Congress is now assured. The RSS is the world's largest social service organization, and its growth cannot be hindered.”
Additionally, commenting on the social media statements made by Former Bihar Chief Minister and HAM President Jitan Ram Manjhi, along with Upendra Kushwaha, the National President of Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM), regarding the NDA's seat-sharing agreement for the forthcoming Bihar Assembly elections, Khandelwal dismissed any controversies.
“There is nothing to these claims. They are merely media conjectures. Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the NDA remains unified and will approach the Bihar elections with full force. We aim to establish a government with a significant majority,” he stated.
Manjhi expressed his contentment with the seat-sharing arrangement, noting, “In the 2024 Parliamentary elections, we were allotted one seat, and we were pleased. Now, we've received six seats, and we respect the leadership's decision.”
The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has recently revealed its seat-sharing plan for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, which are set for November 2025. Both the BJP and JD(U) will vie for 101 seats each, while the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) has been assigned 29 seats, and HAM and RLM will each contest six seats.
