New Delhi, July 1 (NationPress) Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge's suggestion to impose a ban on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) upon assuming power at the Centre provoked a sharp reaction from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The BJP fired back with a quip about 'haseen sapne' (happy dreams).
Central ministers and prominent BJP figures expressed strong disapproval of the Congress leader's disparaging remarks regarding the party's ideological foundation. Some even challenged him to enforce a ban on the right-wing group in states governed by Congress.
Union Minister of State for Jal Shakti, Raj Bhushan Choudhary, remarked that the Congress party has a history of suppressing nationalist perspectives while ignoring extremist factions and elements that harbor anti-national sentiments.
“This is precisely why they have been pushed to the margins. They should stop daydreaming; they will not return to power,” he stated.
BJP MLA Sudhir Mungantiwar responded with a sarcastic comment, saying, "They have been in power for an extended period and have banned the RSS twice. What did it yield? He should consider renaming himself 'Mungerilal ke haseen sapne'.”
He further dared the Karnataka minister to first blacklist the organization in his own state before dreaming of a national prohibition.
“If you truly have the courage, you hold power in Karnataka, Himachal, and Telangana. Why not act there? Because the Supreme Court has made it clear that banning a cultural organization isn't permissible,” he added.
Bihar Minister Mangal Pandey, speaking to IANS, stated that the Congress party has a tendency to oppose and despise organizations that are closely tied to the nation.
“The RSS is an organization committed to nationalistic principles and aims to promote them. Such organizations will never align with the Congress party,” said the former Bihar BJP president.
Another Bihar minister, Santosh Kumar Singh, noted that those who advocate for a ban on the RSS lack respect and appreciation for the country's cultural heritage.
The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) also criticized Kharge's remarks, asserting that this was not the first instance of the Congress leader making controversial statements.
“He has previously made numerous nonsensical comments against Sanatan Dharma; he should refrain from such behavior,” said Vinod Bansal, National Spokesperson of VHP.
