Belagavi, Jan 21 (NationPress) Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge fiercely denounced the BJP on Tuesday, asserting that his party resembles a fire, and if the BJP attempts to interfere with Congress, it will face dire consequences.
“You (BJP) are responsible for burning the Constitution and desecrating images of B.R. Ambedkar and former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. If you provoke us, be warned, we are like fire, and you will suffer the consequences. It’s futile to think you can prosper by continuously instigating others,” Kharge stated during the Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Samvidhan convention in Belagavi.
He further dismissed BJP's assertions that Congress has insulted B.R. Ambedkar, declaring it as ‘impossible’.
“Who placed Ambedkar’s statue in front of Parliament? It was during the leadership of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, with Hukum Singh from Punjab serving as the Speaker. Today, Ambedkar’s statue has been relegated to a spot where no one can even see it,” he elaborated.
Kharge accused the BJP of staging a performance by bowing to copies of the Constitution. “The BJP, RSS, and Hindu Mahasabha have burned copies of the Constitution and statues of Nehru. Without a grasp of history, one cannot understand these acts of hypocrisy,” he expressed.
He refuted the BJP’s claims that Ambedkar was defeated by Congress, clarifying, “The Congress party elected Ambedkar unanimously on two occasions. M.R. Jayakar from Mumbai resigned his Rajya Sabha seat to facilitate Ambedkar’s election. What did the BJP do? They burned copies of the Constitution,” Kharge remarked.
He challenged the BJP regarding who appointed Ambedkar to the Constitution drafting committee.
“You were not in agreement with the Tricolour or national emblem. You should feel ashamed. The BJP and RSS did not even hoist the Tricolour at their offices,” he added.
Kharge commended Rahul Gandhi for his initiatives, emphasizing his ‘Samvidhan Bachao’ movement and the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ from Kanyakumari to Kashmir.
“What sacrifices have members of your organization made for this nation? During the independence movement led by Mahatma Gandhi, Jan Sangh urged people not to participate,” he stated.
“Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi are younger than me. Union Minister Amit Shah insulted Ambedkar on the floor of Parliament. We demanded his resignation and protested. This conflict has commenced,” Kharge proclaimed.
He expressed sorrow over the degradation of government institutions under BJP governance, adding that BJP and RSS are preoccupied with searching for Shivlings beneath every mosque.
“Even RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat has urged the BJP to cease this behavior. The communal animosity they are fostering is perilous. The Congress is dedicated to fostering unity in the country,” Kharge stated.
Kharge also mentioned a letter from Ambedkar to his friend Kamala Kanth, in which he attributed his election defeat to Veer Savarkar and S.A. Dande.
He implored the public not to accept the BJP and RSS's assertions without question.
“Everyone must unite, support the Congress party, and secure its triumph in the elections,” Kharge urged.
