Constitution Discussion in Rajya Sabha: Kharge Critiques Hate Politics by Ruling Party

New Delhi, Dec 16 (NationPress) Mallikarjun Kharge, the Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, participated in the discussion marking the 75th anniversary of the Constitution's adoption. On Monday, he utilized this platform to criticize the ruling BJP for its 'hate politics'. Kharge also countered Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s claims of ‘jumla’ directed toward Congress, asserting that it is his administration that deceives the populace with false promises.

While addressing the Upper House, Kharge highlighted that it was during the Indira Gandhi administration in 1971 that Indian forces successfully separated Pakistan into two nations and facilitated the liberation of Bangladesh. He urged the central government to protect Hindu minorities in the neighboring country.

Kharge remarked that BJP leaders often denigrate Jawaharlal Nehru and Mahatma Gandhi while hypocritically preaching about integrity in public service.

“Those who disdain the Ashok chakra and the Constitution are the ones lecturing us,” stated the Congress leader.

He further advised the ruling BJP to rectify their own mistakes before criticizing others' failures.

“There have been numerous significant accomplishments under previous administrations, yet those in power seem fixated on blaming former governments. Are you here to spread falsehoods, unearth past errors, or engage in a constructive dialogue about the Constitution?” Kharge questioned.

Kharge also condemned the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) for its perceived disrespect towards the national flag, noting that it was only after a court directive that the Tricolour was raised at its headquarters in 2002.

“In 1949, the RSS leadership opposed the Constitution of India as it wasn't based on Manusmriti. They have never acknowledged the National Flag. It was only on January 26, 2002, following a court order, that the Tiranga was displayed at the RSS headquarters for the first time,” Kharge commented.

Responding to PM Modi’s ‘jumla’ allegation against Congress during the Lok Sabha debate on the Constitution, Kharge retorted, “You accuse us of lying. You are the greatest liar. You pledged to deposit Rs 15 lakh into citizens' bank accounts, promised two crore jobs, and vowed to double farmers' incomes. None of this has materialized.”

Accusing the Prime Minister of deceiving and betraying the nation, Kharge asserted that had schemes like MNREGA and food security (initiated under UPA) not been in place, the country would have faced dire straits during the Covid pandemic.

He also refuted PM’s claim that the Constitution was amended illegally for the first time between 1947-52, attributing Modi's criticism of Nehru to a deep-rooted animosity.
