Rajya Sabha Constitution Debate: Kharge Critiques BJP's 'Hate Politics'

New Delhi, Dec 16 (NationPress) Mallikarjun Kharge, the Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, engaged in a discussion commemorating the 75th year of the Constitution's adoption, seizing the opportunity on Monday to criticize the ruling BJP for its 'hate politics'. Kharge also countered Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 'jumla' accusations against Congress, claiming it is the current government that is misleading citizens with empty promises.

While addressing the Upper House, Kharge highlighted that it was during Indira Gandhi's administration in 1971 that Indian forces separated Pakistan into two and facilitated the liberation of Bangladesh. He urged the central government to protect Hindu minorities in the neighboring nation.

He criticized BJP leaders for disparaging Jawaharlal Nehru and Mahatma Gandhi, while hypocritically lecturing on integrity in public life.

“Those who despise the Ashok Chakra and the Constitution are now lecturing us,” stated the Congress leader.

Kharge further advised the ruling BJP to rectify their own missteps before pointing out the faults of others.

“There have been countless significant accomplishments under previous administrations, yet those in power now seem solely interested in blaming former governments. Are you here to spread misinformation, dig up past errors, or engage in a constructive conversation about the Constitution?” Kharge questioned.

He also condemned the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) for its perceived disrespect towards the national flag, noting that it was only after a court directive that the Tricolor was raised at their headquarters in 2002.

“In 1949, RSS leaders opposed the Constitution of India as it was not founded on Manusmriti. They have never acknowledged the National Flag. It was on January 26, 2002, that the Tiranga was displayed at the RSS headquarters for the first time due to court orders,” Kharge observed.

Responding to PM Modi’s 'jumla' claims against Congress during the Constitution debate in Lok Sabha, Kharge remarked, “You accuse us of dishonesty. You are the biggest deceiver. You promised ₹15 lakh in citizens' bank accounts, two crore jobs, and to double farmers’ incomes. None of these pledges have been fulfilled.”

He accused the Prime Minister of misleading and betraying the nation, asserting that if schemes like MNREGA and food security (introduced during UPA) were not operational, the country would have struggled immensely during the Covid pandemic.

Moreover, in rebuttal to PM Modi’s assertion that the Constitution was amended illegally for the first time between 1947-52, Kharge suggested that the Prime Minister's animosity towards Nehru led him to find fault with him.
