Bhopal, Jan 27 (NationPress) The Congress party on Monday criticized the BJP-led government and the RSS for purportedly disrespecting Ambedkar and the Constitution.
“Congress members must safeguard the Constitution at all costs. It should not be subjected to humiliation by the BJP or the RSS,” stated the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, during the ‘Jai Babu, Jai Bhim, Jai Samvidhan’ rally in Mhow.
He also directed his remarks at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, alleging that the BJP and RSS are scheming to turn Dalits and Adivasis into “slaves.”
“Ambedkar’s Constitution was disrespected by Mohan Bhagwat when he claimed that the Constitution did not grant us freedom. The sacrifices and efforts of Ambedkar were directly insulted by him,”
LoP Rahul Gandhi continued.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also criticized the RSS, referencing the perspectives of former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and former Union Home Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
Quoting remarks from Nehru and Patel, Kharge mentioned that the BJP often disseminates falsehoods about the rapport between Nehru and Patel.
“Both leaders were deeply distressed after Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination and they prohibited the RSS,” stated the Congress President.
He further posed the question of whether bathing in the Sangam would alleviate poverty or feed those who are hungry.
“BJP leaders are visiting Prayagraj solely for media attention. However, I do not wish to challenge anyone’s beliefs. If my comments have offended anyone, I apologize. But consider this: when a child is starving and unable to attend school, and laborers are not receiving their wages, these individuals are spending vast sums of money competing for the spotlight in Prayagraj,”
the Congress President remarked.
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, addressing the rally, mentioned that Rahul Gandhi undertook the 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' from Kanyakumari to Kashmir to defend the Constitution and societal harmony.
“At present, if anyone is standing up against the BJP, it is Rahul Gandhi. He is advocating for the Constitution and the rights of the citizens of the nation,” added the Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister.
Former Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot remarked that the Mhow rally would motivate Congress workers nationwide to contest against the BJP.
“Under the BJP government, the authority of all institutions and constitutional bodies has been diminished. As the opposition, we must resist this,” Pilot stated.
Later, Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge visited Ambedkar’s memorial at his birthplace to pay their respects.
The memorial was established during the tenure of former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan, who is affiliated with the BJP.
Mhow has also been officially renamed Ambedkar Nagar in honor of Ambedkar.
