Amit Shah Accuses Congress of Misrepresenting His Remarks on Ambedkar

New Delhi, Dec 18 (NationPress) In an effort to clarify the escalating dispute regarding his comments on Babasaheb Ambedkar, Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday placed the blame squarely on the Congress party for ‘distorting and twisting’ his speech in the Rajya Sabha to serve their political interests.
During a press briefing at the BJP headquarters, Amit Shah characterized Congress as a party that is anti-Ambedkar, anti-reservation, and anti-Constitution, accusing them of reverting to their old tactics of propagating false narratives concerning the Ambedkar issue.
The Home Minister emphasized that his remarks about B.R. Ambedkar during the Constitution debate in Rajya Sabha were intentionally misrepresented by the Congress party, recalling past incidents of ‘fake news’ leading up to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Highlighting the difference in how the BJP and Congress honor national figures, HM Shah asserted that he would never dream of showing disrespect to the architect of the Constitution.
“I belong to a party that upholds values that prevent me from insulting or speaking derogatorily about Babasaheb, even in my dreams,” he stated.
Countering Congress’ allegations, the Home Minister recalled the ‘historical misdeeds and lack of respect’ exhibited by the grand old party, citing how they undermined the Constitution by imposing the Emergency and belittled the valor of brave soldiers.
Directly addressing Congress, he remarked that they have a tendency of reverting to their old, disreputable methods of disseminating falsehoods and twisting facts for their own gain.
“In the early 1950s, Congress leaders initiated a campaign against B.R. Ambedkar to defeat him in elections,” Amit Shah declared, adding that Jawaharlal Nehru’s disdain for Ambedkar was well-documented in his own writings.
He remarked that Ambedkar was denied the Bharat Ratna for many years post-Independence.
“Congress Prime Ministers, including Nehru and Indira Gandhi, awarded themselves the Bharat Ratna. It was only when Congress was out of power that Babasaheb received the nation’s highest civilian honor,” he noted.
Shah also criticized the ‘ignorance and neglect’ of Dalits during Congress’s seven decades of governance, questioning why previous administrations opposed initiatives aimed at providing quotas for the underprivileged.
“Those who have consistently mocked democracy are the ones spreading lies about the Constitution,” he remarked.
“Mallikarjun Kharge should refrain from the party’s obvious attempts to propagate false narratives about the Dalit icon,” HM Shah advised the Congress chief in response to his calls for the Home Minister’s resignation.
Finally, the Home Minister urged journalists to present an accurate portrayal to the public and to inform them about the ‘malicious’ efforts to tarnish his reputation.
