Jaipur, Nov 24 (NationPress) Rajasthan's Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma stated that the Khelo India University Games are taking place across seven divisions in Rajasthan, uniting aspiring athletes from all over the nation.
He pointed out that these games transcend mere competition—they symbolize the inception of numerous athletes’ aspirations, with the potential to nurture future Olympic champions.
During the opening ceremony of the Khelo India University Games at Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Monday, Sharma remarked that sports instill values of struggle, perseverance, and resilience, empowering individuals to confront life's challenges with courage.
Quoting Swami Vivekananda, he encouraged the youth to “arise, awake, and conquer the nation and the world.”
He mentioned that while India once yearned for medals, under Prime Minister Modi’s guidance, the nation has gained global recognition in sports.
Referring to the recent triumph of the Indian women’s cricket team in the World Cup, he highlighted that daughters are proving their mettle.
Sharma also outlined the state government’s initiatives, announcing a Sports Life Insurance Scheme designed to offer life and accident insurance to international medalists. Additionally, Rajasthan has initiated its own Target Olympic Podium Scheme, inspired by the central government’s program, aimed at assisting elite athletes in their preparations for global events.
The Chief Minister further revealed that land would be allocated to Dronacharya Award winners, mirroring the benefits provided to Arjuna Award recipients. Colonel Rajyavardhan Rathore (Retd.), the Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, remarked that since 2014, Prime Minister Modi's leadership has catalyzed remarkable changes in Indian sports.
He expressed that the 12-day Khelo India University Games will empower youth to achieve new milestones through discipline and determination. He commended the Chief Minister for propelling Rajasthan forward across education, sports, industry, and the energy sector.
The Chief Minister inaugurated the games by placing the ceremonial torch—delivered to the stage by a drone—on the main podium. A stunning drone show illustrated the evolution of sports in India alongside Rajasthan’s growth journey, complemented by vibrant cultural performances at the grand opening.
