New Delhi, Sep 2 (NationPress) - Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju stated on Tuesday that the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, is not merely a 'pappu' but involved in a "well-thought-out conspiracy" orchestrated by anti-national elements.
The term 'pappu' became a nickname for LoP Rahul Gandhi during the lead-up to the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
Rijiju's comments were in response to inquiries regarding the Opposition's resistance, led by LoP Gandhi, against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the Bihar voter list conducted by the Election Commission of India (ECI). He remarked on the disruptions caused during the recently concluded Monsoon Session of Parliament.
"Do not underestimate LoP Rahul Gandhi's intellect. His actions are strategic rather than foolish; they are part of a calculated conspiracy. The moniker 'Pappu' was not given by us; it was attributed by senior members of the AICC and Congress itself. I do not consider him foolish," the Union Minister asserted.
"Anti-national forces and leftist ideologies have coerced LoP Rahul Gandhi into attacking the judiciary and the ECI, accusing the Centre of vote theft. LoP Gandhi is aware of this; he is not naive. He understands he is part of a well-thought-out conspiracy," he elaborated.
Nonetheless, Rijiju emphasized that under PM Modi's leadership, no one can disrupt the nation's progress.
"The citizens are rallying behind the Prime Minister as he leads the country forward... The public is aware that those who resort to derogatory remarks are unfit to lead the nation," he stated.
This isn't the first instance where Rijiju has claimed that it was not the BJP who coined the term 'Pappu' for LoP Gandhi.
Last September, Congress leader Sam Pitroda reminded audiences of this nickname during an event in Texas.
"Rahul Gandhi aims to tackle broader issues; he possesses a vision that contrasts sharply with the BJP's approach of spending vast sums of money. He is not 'Pappu'; he is highly educated and a strategist with profound insights on various subjects," he expressed.
Following this, Rijiju responded, "Mr. Sam Pitroda is unjustly blaming the BJP. Congress leaders assigned this title 'Pappu' to Rahul Gandhi. Let's not hold the BJP accountable for his failures and 'balak buddhi.'"
In the midst of this exchange, BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya seized the moment to tweet, "Imagine introducing 'balak buddhi Rahul Gandhi as, 'He is no Pappu...'. Sam Pitroda just did that."
