Union Coal and Mines Minister G. Kishan Reddy, also BJP Telangana state president, joined Union Health and Family Welfare Minister J.P. Nadda on Thursday, 9 July 2026, for an on-site inspection of construction works and medical services at AIIMS Bibinagar in Telangana. The visit reviewed both the physical progress of the campus and the range of healthcare services already being delivered to patients across the state.

Posting in Telugu after the visit, Kishan Reddy described the institution as making 'wonderful progress' and said he was 'very happy' to see AIIMS Bibinagar emerging as a distinguished centre for medical education and research while delivering improved healthcare to the people of Telangana. He noted that the hospital, college, hostel, and AYUSH services are already operational. The post highlighted six specific areas of achievement — construction, medical education, patient services, digital healthcare, research, and community outreach.

On the construction front, the minister stated that more than 87 per cent of civil works have been completed. The remaining work covers additional blocks yet to be handed over.

AIIMS Bibinagar was sanctioned under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY), which was launched in 2003 to set up AIIMS-like institutions in states that lacked advanced tertiary care. Cabinet approval for the Bibinagar campus came in 2015 as part of the second phase of new AIIMS establishments aimed at decentralising super-speciality medicine beyond major metros.

The campus has been integrated with two flagship central programmes. Patients are receiving free treatment through PM-JAY (Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana) and the state's Aarogyasri scheme. Additionally, 90 per cent of patient records have been linked with the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, which was launched in 2020 to enable interoperability of health data across facilities nationwide.

Stakeholders and Impact

According to the post, more than 900 students are currently enrolled in MBBS, postgraduate, super-speciality, and nursing courses, supported by 132 professors and 133 senior resident doctors. On the patient side, approximately 1,800 patients avail OPD services every day, with 250 beds, modern laboratory diagnostics, and emergency services in place.

The digital outreach arm, e-Sanjeevani, has delivered more than 1.56 lakh phone and online medical consultations across all 33 districts of Telangana. Community health initiatives have extended the institution's reach beyond its walls.
