Police reports indicate that Ghosh allegedly shot a woman named Mousumi Haldar, with whom he was said to be involved in an extramarital affair. The shooting occurred after she expressed her desire to end their relationship.
At approximately 7 a.m., Ghosh and an accomplice shot the woman from behind while traveling on a motorcycle. The victim sustained a gunshot wound to her back and is currently in critical condition, receiving treatment at SSKM Hospital.
A police team led by Sub-Inspector Joydev Bairagi from the Haridevpur Police Station tracked the vehicle's registration number and successfully apprehended the accused shortly thereafter.
The swift capture has been recognized as a significant achievement for the Kolkata Police.
Following the incident, Bablu fled his home with his possessions in a rented car. Neighbors in the Haridevpur area alerted the police about his escape, leading officers to trace the vehicle's owner.
During the investigation, a police official contacted the car owner under the pretense of wanting to rent a vehicle. The owner revealed that the car was not available as it had been taken to Panchla in Howrah district.
With the registration number in hand, a police team began tracking the vehicle, while another team proceeded to Panchla.
Ultimately, the vehicle carrying Bablu was intercepted near the PTS crossing after confirming the license plate. Bablu was discovered inside the car, packed with his belongings, allegedly on his way to hide in Panchla.
He was promptly taken into custody and subsequently brought before a court. The police are expected to request his remand for further inquiries.
The entire sequence of events, from the shooting to the arrest, transpired in a mere three hours, according to officials.
