Jaipur, Aug 15 (NationPress) On Friday, eleven school children sustained injuries in a collision involving a school van and a car on Khanpur Road within the Sangod police jurisdiction of Kota district, Rajasthan.

The incident occurred around noon on the Sangod-Jolpa Road, as the van was transporting students back home after an Independence Day celebration when it collided head-on with a Swift car, leading to the van overturning.

According to Sangod SHO Lakhan Singh, the injured children, aged between 7 and 15 years, were on their way to their village, Chatarpura, after attending the festivities at Evergreen School.

“The impact resulted in a direct collision between the van and the car on Jolpa Road, causing the van to flip over. The police team arrived promptly to begin rescue efforts,” he stated.

The injured students were initially transported to the Sangod Community Health Centre (CHC) for basic medical care.

Five children, along with the van driver, were subsequently referred to Kota due to the severity of their injuries. Among those injured were student Hrithik Mehra and driver Rohit, both suffering from head injuries and currently receiving treatment at Kota’s New Medical College Hospital.

Authorities confirmed that the driver of the Swift car has been apprehended, and the vehicle has been confiscated. A case has been filed, and a detailed investigation is ongoing.

Roop Singh Meena, Joint Director of the Education Department, mentioned that upon learning of the accident, a departmental team was dispatched to the site.

“We have positioned a team at the hospital to monitor the care provided to the injured children. We are in continuous communication with the hospital administration to ensure superior treatment as necessary. Hrithik and the driver have undergone X-rays, and three to four additional injured children are being transferred to Kota for specialized medical attention,” he added.

Police confirmed that besides the five students sent to Kota, the remaining injured children only sustained minor injuries and are on the mend.
