Jodhpur, Aug 15 (NationPress) In a heart-wrenching incident that overshadowed Independence Day celebrations in Jodhpur, a student lost his life in a tragic road accident. The young boy, en route to school, was tragically crushed by a truck after his motorcycle skidded, while three other students suffered serious injuries.

The unfortunate event occurred in the vicinity of Hotel Radisson on Friday morning.

Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot expressed his dismay at the state government, attributing the accident to alleged mismanagement during the state-level Independence Day festivities.

“As reported by the media, over 15 children required hospitalization due to dehydration during the event, and many were denied entry despite having valid passes. The government's insensitivity was starkly evident even after a child lost his life due to a road accident,” he stated.

Describing the situation as “unfortunate,” Gehlot called on the government to reflect on the incident and ensure improved planning for future national events.

According to Ramkrishna Tada, the officer in charge at the Airport police station, four students from Ratanada Nehru Colony were riding on a single motorcycle on their way to school for the Independence Day celebrations.

The motorcycle lost control, resulting in one of the boys, Lokendra (12), falling onto the roadway. Tragically, a truck loaded with stones, approaching from behind, ran over Lokendra, killing him instantly.

The truck driver responsible for the incident fled the scene.

Authorities have impounded the vehicle, and an FIR has been registered at the Airport police station following a complaint from the victim's family.

In response to the tragedy, family members and local residents protested at the Panchbati intersection, demanding justice and accountability for the driver.

Rajya Sabha MP Rajendra Gehlot and city MLA Atul Bhansali visited the site, promising the family compensation of Rs 5 lakh, a thorough investigation, and a job opportunity for a dependent.

Lokendra's sister, Komal, who is in Class 11, shared her sorrow: “My brother’s head was crushed… he was the only brother among three siblings.”

Lokendra was in Class 8. The incident also sparked political discourse.

Investigations are underway, and authorities continue to search for the fleeing truck driver.
