Jaipur, Aug 20 (NationPress) The former Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Ashok Gehlot, paid a visit on Wednesday to the family of Lokendra Singh, a 12-year-old boy who tragically passed away in a road accident on August 15.
During his visit, Ashok Gehlot expressed condolences to the grieving family and subsequently went to Mathuradas Mathur Hospital to check on the condition of the three other students injured in the incident.
Speaking to reporters at the airport earlier, the Congress leader launched a fierce critique against the administration led by Bhajan Lal Sharma, accusing the Chief Minister of demonstrating a complete lack of empathy during his visit to Jodhpur for the state-level Independence Day festivities.
"A student lost his life en route to attend the CM’s event, yet instead of offering condolences to the grieving family, the Chief Minister altered his route and departed. I am baffled by who advises him. Had he chosen to meet the family, it might have mitigated public outrage,” stated Ashok Gehlot.
He also criticized local authorities for their failure to intervene against underage and overloaded two-wheeler riders.
“If several students were riding on one bike, the police should have acted to stop them. If they had done their job, this accident could have been averted,” he remarked.
Additionally, he condemned the absence of basic facilities such as water and shade at the Independence Day event organized by the ruling BJP, which resulted in health complications for over 20 schoolchildren.
“This is blatant negligence by the administration. I doubt any measures have been taken against those accountable, but there must be accountability to avert such incidents in the future,” asserted Ashok Gehlot.
On the topic of 'voter fraud' raised by opposition parties, Ashok Gehlot supported Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, in advocating for a nationwide voter verification process.
“Vote theft is a pressing issue being discussed in every village. LoP Rahul Gandhi aims for all voters to be reverified and for a transparent system to guarantee fair elections. Regrettably, the Election Commission’s stance on this matter is unsatisfactory,” he added.
On August 15, four students were struck by a speeding truck near the Residency Road crossing, under the jurisdiction of the Ratanada police station.
Lokendra Singh was killed instantly in the incident, while the truck driver fled the scene. The three remaining students suffered serious injuries and are currently being treated at Mathuradas Mathur Hospital.
