Patna, May 6 (NationPress) In a heartbreaking incident, two children lost their lives and three others sustained serious injuries in a road accident in Bihar's Jamui district early Tuesday morning. A speeding pickup van collided with an auto-rickshaw, according to officials.
The accident took place around 2 a.m. close to Hardimoh village on the Khaira-Sono main road.
The victims were returning from a wedding celebration when their auto-rickshaw was forced to stop on the roadside due to a tree that had fallen as a result of a powerful storm. Tragically, it was struck from behind by an unidentified pickup van, as reported by the police.
The wedding was for Chuter Manjhi, the son of Santosh Manjhi, a resident of Sonel Dahua village.
The deceased children have been identified as Rishi Kumar (10), the son of Chandan Manjhi, and Gullu Kumar (10), the son of Jodhan Manjhi.
The injured individuals -- Gautam Manjhi (12), Deepak Kumar (11), and Modi Kumar (12) -- were initially taken to Sadar Hospital in Jamui for emergency care before being referred to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) for more comprehensive treatment.
Khaira SHO Mintu Kumar Singh stated that an investigation is ongoing, with efforts being made to locate the pickup van.
“We are examining CCTV footage and interviewing witnesses to identify the vehicle and driver involved,” he said.
Family members of the injured children are calling for the immediate arrest of the van driver and seek compensation from the district administration.
In a separate incident earlier that same day, eight people perished and two others were critically injured when a Scorpio SUV collided with a parked tractor loaded with maize in Katihar district.
This crash occurred around 1 a.m. near Diyara Chandpur Tikapatti, under the jurisdiction of the Kursela police station, on State Highway 77. The SUV, which was part of a wedding procession, crashed into the stationary tractor near the Bajrangbali Temple.
