Patna, May 10 (NationPress) In a devastating road incident in the Sitamarhi district of Bihar, three individuals lost their lives and one person suffered severe injuries when a fast-moving dumper truck crashed into an e-rickshaw on Saturday.
The collision took place in the vicinity of the Bhutahi police station as the victims were traveling to Nepal from Maibi village, situated under the jurisdiction of Sahiyara police station, to participate in a wedding celebration.
The deceased have been identified as Chandan Kumar, an engineer, his mother Bina Devi, and Rajendra Mahato, the e-rickshaw driver. Meanwhile, Urmila Devi, Chandan's aunt who sustained serious injuries, has been transferred to Muzaffarpur for advanced medical care.
Witnesses reported that the dumper was loaded with ballast for road work along the Kanhauli road and collided with the e-rickshaw while returning.
Quick actions from local residents facilitated the rescue of the victims; however, unfortunately, three individuals succumbed to their injuries at the scene. Locals managed to apprehend the dumper’s driver and co-driver, who were subsequently handed over to law enforcement.
Devendra Chaudhary, the in-charge of Bhutahi Police Station, confirmed that a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against the driver for reckless and negligent driving.
“The dumper has been confiscated, and both the driver and helper are in police custody. An investigation is currently underway,” Chaudhary stated.
“The injured woman was promptly taken to Sitamarhi Sadar Hospital. We are vigilantly monitoring her condition, and she was later referred to Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital for enhanced treatment,” he added.
This incident follows a similar tragedy in Jehanabad district, where a HIWA dumper collided head-on with a bus, resulting in the deaths of three individuals, including a teenage boy.
The victims were part of the wedding entourage and were heading home. Additionally, over a dozen people sustained injuries in that incident, raising alarm regarding reckless driving by heavy construction vehicles on Bihar’s roads.
The bus was transporting guests from Datmai village under the jurisdiction of Qadirganj Police Station in Patna to Lal Bhasara village under the Dulhin Bazar police station limits in Patna district.
