Bengaluru, Oct 20 (NationPress) The Karnataka BJP has leveled accusations against the state government on Monday, claiming it is allegedly “misusing” the caste census for its own vote bank politics.

Leader of the Opposition R. Ashoka stated that participation in the caste survey has not been universal. He cited the example of Infosys' Sudha Murthy, who did not provide details for the caste survey, and alleged that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Minister Shivaraj Tangadagi threatened her. “The government is exhibiting rowdy behavior. Despite the High Court asserting that participation is voluntary, the government is disregarding this and resorting to intimidation. The caste survey itself is illegal, and the threats are equally unlawful,” Ashoka remarked.

He emphasized that disclosing what Sudha Murthy filled in her survey form was inappropriate and reminded that the High Court has mandated the protection of individuals’ privacy. Furthermore, he accused the government of intimidating educators and officials.

Previously, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Minister Shivraj Tangadagi had criticized Rajya Sabha MP Sudha Murthy for opting out of the state’s Social and Educational Survey, commonly known as the caste survey.

Ashoka alleged that Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar was disparaging entrepreneurs, claiming he offers moral advice when infrastructure issues arise. “When Mohan Das Pai and Kiran Mazumdar Shaw raise concerns, he lashes out at them. To assert that they owe everything to Bengaluru is incorrect; neither CM Siddaramaiah nor D.K. Shivakumar contributed to the city's development. Taxpayers have every right to voice their opinions,” he stated.

He noted that despite the government spending Rs 2,000 crore on filling potholes, visible improvements are lacking.

Ashoka further contended that an all-party meeting should have been convened during flood crises, criticizing the government for failing to communicate with the central authorities regarding relief efforts.

“The central government has already disbursed relief in accordance with regulations,” he asserted.

He also mentioned that there is no proof that former CM Jagadish Shettar issued directives against programs by external organizations in school settings.

“This matter was not discussed in the BJP-led cabinet. It pertains to a single school in Chamarajpet, yet the current government has generalized the application of the order. If there’s a decree signed by Jagadish Shettar or former ministers, it should be disclosed,” he stated.

Ashoka remarked that discussions regarding the RSS 'Path Sanchalan' have surfaced only after a century since its inception.

“A non-existent issue for many years has now emerged. Every Friday, prayers are held on the streets of Bengaluru's Chamarajpet, causing traffic disruptions. During Ramzan and Eid Milad, roads are obstructed without permission. In certain instances, sword-wielding processions occur, yet they are not classified as weapons. No harm has ever occurred during RSS path sanchalan,” he concluded.
