Bengaluru, July 16 (NationPress) BJP MLA Byrathi Basavaraj has firmly denied any involvement in the murder case for which the Karnataka Police have charged him. He has been named as the fifth accused in the case, which has raised eyebrows.
In a statement to the media in Bengaluru on Wednesday, MLA Basavaraj expressed that he is being intentionally framed in this matter. "I do not know the individual who was brutally murdered, nor am I acquainted with the perpetrators," he remarked.
"I am unaware of the person who filed the complaint against me. Can the police really register an FIR based solely on false allegations?" he posed.
"I only learned about these developments through news reports. I am being implicated in a case where I have no ties. I will pursue legal action to clear my name from this FIR," Basavaraj asserted.
He mentioned that he plans to discuss the situation with Home Minister G. Parameshwara.
Byrathi Basavaraj is the representative for the K.R. Puram Assembly constituency in Bengaluru. He was previously a close ally of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah before transitioning to the BJP.
His younger brother, Byrathi Suresh, remains a close confidant of CM Siddaramaiah and oversees the Urban Development and Town Planning portfolio.
Senior BJP MLA and former Minister Byrathi Basavaraj has been charged with murder in relation to the death of a rowdy sheeter. The Bharatinagar police in Bengaluru have filed an FIR against the MLA, listing him as the fifth accused.
The complaint was lodged by Vijayalaxmi, the mother of the deceased rowdy sheeter, Shivaprakash, also known as Biklu Shiva. He was murdered in front of his home on Tuesday night.
According to police sources, Shivaprakash had previously filed a complaint against Byrathi Basavaraj, claiming that the MLA's associates had threatened him over a land dispute. He alleged they pressured him to revoke the GPA (General Power of Attorney) and surrender control of the disputed property.
Shivaprakash reportedly submitted video proof of the alleged threats from the MLA’s associates when filing his complaint.
The FIR has been filed under Sections 103 and 190 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against MLA Byrathi Basavaraj and others. The other accused named in the FIR include Jagadish (34), Kiran (33), Vimal (36), and Anil (34). Police have indicated that further individuals may be implicated as the investigation continues.
