Is K’taka Congress MLA Supporting D.K. Suresh's Take on Leadership Change?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, Jan 21 (NationPress) Congress MLA Shivaganga Basavaraj expressed his support for the comments made by D.K. Suresh, the brother of Karnataka's Deputy Chief Minister Shivakumar, emphasizing that no one is willing to relinquish their position of power.
“There is a limit to everyone’s patience. What Suresh has said is true. Even Gram Panchayat presidents are not vacating their posts as per agreements. We are witnessing this in our constituencies,” he stated.
Shivaganga Basavaraj mentioned that it is necessary to inquire of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah regarding the agreement. “I do not know whether the Chief Minister gave his word. Suresh has asserted that no one will abandon their seat of power. When a Gram Panchayat president is unwilling to step down, it indicates that no one will be ready to surrender power. I do not feel this applies to CM Siddaramaiah,” he commented.
He clarified that he is adhering to the principles of Shivakumar and will follow the directives of the high command.
Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy noted that Ahinda conventions are being held at five locations across the state.
“All this is unfolding as part of the leadership struggle. I will refrain from commenting on the Congress party’s internal disputes regarding the Chief Minister’s position as I have no connection to it. However, I wish to question this government and the Chief Minister as to why they are organizing Ahinda conventions at five locations when the law and order situation in the state has deteriorated,” he remarked.
Meanwhile, sources indicate that Shivakumar has instructed his supporters to refrain from organizing meetings or making public statements regarding the leadership issue.
According to insiders, the party high command has reacted positively and stated that meetings and public statements are unwarranted, especially during the Assembly session, as they could convey a misleading message.
After issuing these directives, Shivakumar reportedly departed for Davos.
Previously, D.K. Suresh remarked that achieving power is not an easy task.
“I have mentioned before that if it is destined for my brother, he will become the Chief Minister. I still maintain this view. Attaining the Chief Minister's position is not a simple endeavor. Power does not come easily,” he concluded.
