Bengaluru, Aug 5 (NationPress) The Congress-led government in Karnataka has urged RTC employees to refrain from their indefinite strike and to work together with the administration. Following the union's decision to initiate a strike, bus services throughout Karnataka faced significant disruptions on Tuesday, leading to considerable inconvenience for the public.
The RTC workforce is advocating for the immediate release of 38 months' overdue salaries, a wage review effective from August 1, an end to employee mistreatment, a halt to privatization, and resolution of other pertinent matters.
In a media briefing in Bengaluru on Tuesday, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar appealed to the striking transport workers, saying, "If there is a chance to assist RTC staff, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will surely take action. Being obstinate is unproductive. I urge them to cooperate, considering the public's interests."
When confronted with claims that the government is being inflexible in addressing the workers' demands, Shivakumar responded, "The government does not assert that the demands of the RTC workers are unjust. They must also recognize the government's constraints. The Chief Minister and the Transport Minister are committed to supporting them. The public interest must be prioritized."
"It is inappropriate to pressure the government into actions that are not feasible. I appeal for their cooperation. I also commend the drivers and conductors who reported for duty today. The welfare of the public is paramount," emphasized Shivakumar.
Addressing concerns about some workers continuing their strike despite a court order to delay it by a day, he stated, "Disregarding the law is unnecessary. You serve society—please collaborate with us."
On whether Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the inauguration of the Metro Yellow Line, he replied, "He has been notified about Prime Minister Narendra Modi's arrival on August 10. Hence, I conducted an initial inspection of the Metro line set for inauguration."
"The official schedule has yet to be released. However, multiple events are planned, including the railway project inauguration and his party's activities," added Shivakumar.
