Why Did the K'taka Government Withdraw Land Acquisition for the Aerospace Project?

Bengaluru, July 15 (NationPress) The government of Karnataka announced on Tuesday that it has officially abandoned the land acquisition process in Channarayapattana and nearby villages within Devanahalli taluk, located on the outskirts of Bengaluru, intended for the establishment of an aerospace project.

Situated near the Bengaluru International Airport, Devanahalli was earmarked for the acquisition of 1,777 acres for this ambitious aerospace endeavor.

A request had been made to allocate land in the vicinity of Bengaluru for this initiative.

However, local farmers and landowners took a firm stand and initiated protests.

During a meeting at Vidhana Soudha with officials and farmer leaders concerning the land acquisition in Channarayapattana and other villages of Devanahalli taluk, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced, "We have completely withdrawn the land acquisition process in Channarayapatna and surrounding areas of Devanahalli taluk."

CM Siddaramaiah elaborated, "While this decision may lead to industries exploring other locations, the state government has prioritized the interests of farmers and, recognizing their concerns, has opted to cancel the land acquisition."

He further noted, "The state government will only acquire land from farmers who voluntarily choose to surrender their land. These farmers will receive higher compensation and developed plots in exchange for their land."

"Compensation will be provided at rates exceeding the guidance value, and farmers wishing to continue agricultural activities will be permitted to do so," he added.

CM Siddaramaiah underscored, "Devanahalli taluk's proximity to Bengaluru, coupled with the presence of the Bengaluru International Airport, makes it crucial for enhancing the income of every citizen in the state. Development is essential, and new industries require land, which is the government's responsibility to provide for industrial establishment."

While confirming the total withdrawal of the acquisition process, he reiterated that land would only be acquired from those farmers who voluntarily come forward, assuring them of not only higher compensation but also larger and developed plots.

He emphasized, "No protest of this magnitude has previously occurred in the state against land acquisition. The land involved is exceptionally fertile and vital for agriculture, with local farmers heavily reliant on it. Protesters have unequivocally requested the cancellation of the acquisition process."

"The government has taken into account the voices of all stakeholders, including farmers and landowners. While fostering industrial growth is vital for the state's advancement, it is essential that this growth is inclusive," the Chief Minister stated.

Actor Prakash Raj, who has been involved in the protests against the land acquisition, remarked, "Today's decision demonstrates the Chief Minister's commitment to social justice is not merely verbal but also actionable."

Various state ministers and farmer representatives were present at the meeting, highlighting a unified front on this pressing issue.
