Bengaluru, May 27 (NationPress) Karnataka's Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar asserted on Tuesday that the state administration will safeguard its assets at all costs regarding the potential transfer of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), a leading defense manufacturing entity controlled by the Central Government and situated in Bengaluru, to Andhra Pradesh.
While addressing the press at the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee headquarters, Shivakumar remarked, "HAL was not established by any BJP administration. It was initiated in Bengaluru by former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru owing to the region's skilled workforce."
He further stated, "I will not meddle in Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu's political appeals to the Centre. We have allocated adequate land for HAL and also for a helicopter facility in Tumakuru. They may freely establish new operations in Andhra Pradesh; we will not oppose it. However, our (Congress) government is committed to preserving our state's assets."
"What are our MPs from Karnataka doing? The Union Ministers have remained silent regarding the potential relocation of HAL to Andhra Pradesh. I anticipate them to advocate for our state," Shivakumar urged the Central Government.
Sharan Prakash Patil, the Minister for Medical Education, Skill Development, Livelihood, and District In-charge for Raichur, stated, "Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is a symbol of pride for our state. We will reject any proposal to move it to Andhra Pradesh."
"This institution was not created by the BJP. We have no interest in the request made by Chandrababu Naidu from Andhra Pradesh. HAL is ours — it represents our pride. If there is any initiative to relocate it, it is the duty of BJP MPs to prevent it. If they instead submit to the BJP High Command, it would be a betrayal of our state," Minister Patil added.
Reports indicate that Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu recently requested the relocation of the HAL facility during a NITI Aayog meeting.
Karnataka's Large and Medium Industries Minister M.B. Patil previously noted that while establishing a HAL unit in Andhra Pradesh is acceptable, relocating the existing HAL facility is not an option.
Minister Patil expressed his intention to visit Delhi soon to meet Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to advocate for the defense corridor that Karnataka rightfully deserves.
