Itanagar, Nov 1 (NationPress) The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Lt. General (Retd) K.T. Parnaik, has assured a delegation from the Congress party that the state government is fully aware and that security agencies have been directed to guarantee the safety and security of everyone during the upcoming Panchayat elections, according to officials on Saturday.
A representative from the Raj Bhavan stated that the Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) delegation, led by President Bosiram Siram, met with the Governor at the Raj Bhavan on Friday.
The Congress delegation expressed their concerns regarding the security situation in the Tirap, Changlang, and Longding districts in light of the upcoming Panchayat elections, the official mentioned.
The Governor acknowledged their concerns and affirmed that all essential precautions are being implemented to ensure enhanced security during these grassroots elections.
He stressed the importance of conducting the Panchayat elections in a peaceful, free, and fair manner, which embodies the true spirit of democracy.
“The Governor informed the delegation that the state government has been made aware and security agencies are being instructed to ensure the security of all during the Panchayat elections,” the Raj Bhavan official stated.
The Governor has already convened multiple security review meetings, including one in Namsai with elected officials, district administrations, police authorities, and security forces assigned to the Tirap-Changlang-Longding (TCL) area.
Similar high-level meetings were conducted in Khonsa and Longding to examine and enhance security measures in the eastern districts. The general election for the Panchayats in Arunachal Pradesh is scheduled for next month.
The last general elections took place in December 2020, and the State Election Commission previously held by-elections for specific vacant Gram Panchayat and Zila Parishad constituencies.
During the meeting with the Governor, Siram was accompanied by APCC working President Techi Tagi Tara, and General Secretary-cum-Spokespersons Chera Taya and Kon Jirjo Jotham.
The APCC released a statement indicating that the Governor attentively listened to the concerns raised and shared his insights on the current situation in the TCL districts.
He assured the delegation that he would discuss the matter with Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Chief Secretary Manish Gupta, and Director General of Police (DGP) Anand Mohan to ensure appropriate action.
