Bagalkot (Karnataka), Oct 17 (NationPress) A shocking and brutal event has emerged from the Bagalkot district of Karnataka, where a son tied his mother up and slit her throat after she refused to provide him with money for alcohol.
This disturbing incident took place in Tulasigeri village, located in Bagalkot taluk. The perpetrator has been named as 28-year-old Venkatesh Girisagar, while the victim is his 58-year-old mother, Shavakka Girisagar.
According to law enforcement, the accused bound his mother's hands and legs, gagged her with a cloth, and then committed the horrific act. The victim's husband had passed away a few years ago, and her daughter was married and residing elsewhere, leaving her and the accused son living together in a rented accommodation.
Venkatesh, known for his alcohol dependency, reportedly argued with his mother on a daily basis over money. On Thursday night, he returned home intoxicated and initiated yet another dispute over financial demands. When his mother declined to give him money, he violently attacked her, used a cloth to muffle her screams, and fled the scene.
Neighbors later discovered the tragedy and promptly alerted the authorities. Officers from the Kaladagi police station quickly arrived and initiated a manhunt for the suspect, who was subsequently apprehended at a bar where he was found drinking. The police are currently conducting further investigations.
This is not an isolated case; earlier in July, a 25-year-old man from Hakkimakki village, Aldur, murdered his mother, Bhavani, when she refused to give him money for alcohol, later setting her body ablaze. Similarly, Eshwar Naika, 26, was arrested for suffocating his mother, Padmabai, during a financial dispute. In another incident in January, a 21-year-old man, Ramesh, strangled his 41-year-old mother, Mahalakshmi, using a mobile charger cable during a drunken argument. In November 2024, in Madhuranahalli village of Hassan district, a 26-year-old man, Bharat, brutally beat his 61-year-old mother, Chikkamma, to death after she refused to give him money for alcohol, ultimately taking his own life afterwards.
