Dharwad (Karnataka), Oct 10 (NationPress) A new controversy has emerged on Friday in Karnataka regarding the recitation of the Quran during a government event in Dharwad city.
The Karnataka Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has criticized the Congress-led administration for permitting the Quran recitation at a government gathering presided over by Karnataka Labour Minister Santosh Lad.
In response to the Quran recital, BJP leaders engaged in Hindu rituals.
BJP supporters assembled in front of the Deputy Commissioner's Office in Dharwad, where they chanted Rudra mantras and the vachanas of Lord Basavanna.
They also performed a 'havan', a sacred Hindu fire ritual that includes offerings made into the holy fire to cleanse the surroundings and invoke positive energy.
There are claims that the Quran recitation occurred during a felicitation event following the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the Hubballi Electricity Supply Company (Hescom) project.
However, Congress Corporator Mangala Gowri and her son Nagaraj Gowri, who organized the event, clarified that it was not a government function.
The Congress leaders refuted the claims, stating that the Quran recitation was part of a private felicitation program organized by them.
They emphasized that the official government program was strictly limited to the foundation stone-laying ceremony.
Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly and BJP MLA Arvind Bellad addressed the media after the event, asserting, "It is crucial for ruling parties to treat all religions and communities fairly. However, the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah-led Congress government seems to believe their primary duty is to appease Muslims and minorities."
"They (Congress) neglect all protocols and the oaths they took in front of the Governor. They overlook their obligation to serve all citizens. At the event held at Siddarudha Mutt, a Sanatan mutt, Minister Santosh Lad and other Congress officials allowed a Mullah to recite a prayer from the Quran on stage," Bellad alleged.
"This is a Hindu mutt, and the Quran has no place there. Their fixation on appeasing Muslims clouds their judgment regarding their responsibilities. The influence of Mullahs on Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and the Congress party is profound," he continued.
"To dispel that influence and seek divine guidance for the ruling Chief Minister, we initiated this program. We commenced with the recitation of Rudra mantras and Basaveshwara vachanas, followed by a havan and other religious practices," he remarked.
"We hope and pray that Siddaramaiah and his ministers start treating everyone fairly and cease pandering to Muslims. We have formally notified the Chief Secretary about the protocol breach that occurred. I am confident the Chief Secretary will take the necessary actions against the responsible officer," added MLA Bellad.
