Key Takeaways
Hyderabad, March 12 (NationPress) K.T. Rama Rao, the Working President of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), reached out to Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, on Thursday, requesting urgent action to tackle the critical shortage of both commercial and domestic LPG cylinders.
In his correspondence, Rama Rao emphasized that the ongoing disruption in LPG supply is significantly impacting hotels, restaurants, PG hostels, and small-scale food enterprises.
He cautioned that a failure to restore the supply swiftly could lead to the closure of thousands of establishments, causing immense distress for lakhs of workers and students reliant on these services.
To mitigate the crisis, the BRS Working President proposed several actionable solutions to the Central government.
He recommended implementing a tiered LPG allocation system to prioritize supply for small vendors and at-risk businesses.
Additionally, he suggested the establishment of a real-time public dashboard to offer transparent insights on LPG cylinder availability across various districts.
Rama Rao urged the Union government to impose a temporary price freeze on commercial LPG cylinders to alleviate the financial strain on small businesses during this challenging period.
He also called for stringent measures against black marketing, where domestic LPG cylinders are unlawfully redirected for commercial use and sold at inflated rates.
Moreover, KTR requested that PG hostels located in IT corridor regions, which accommodate lakhs of students and professionals, receive special protection to guarantee steady LPG supply.
He stressed the need for gas-based crematoriums to be designated as essential services, ensuring their operations remain uninterrupted amid the LPG cylinder shortage.
Highlighting the plight of lakhs of daily wage workers dependent on the hospitality and food sectors, KTR warned that kitchen closures could jeopardize their livelihoods.
Describing the situation as a serious crisis impacting the livelihoods of millions, KTR implored the Union government to take immediate and coordinated steps to restore LPG supplies and protect essential services throughout the nation.
