Hyderabad, Jan 21 (NationPress) In a strong denunciation of the verbal and physical altercation involving his party’s MLA, Congress MP Mallu Ravi was criticized by BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao, who labeled the incident as a blatant assault on democracy.
Rama Rao's response came after the altercation that took place in Jogulamba Gadewal district on Tuesday.
Mallu Ravi, representing Nagarkurnool, was reported to have forcibly pushed BRS MLA Vijayaram during a dispute over protocol at the inauguration of development initiatives in Paipadu, located in Vaddepally municipality.
The confrontation escalated when Vijayaudu, the MLA from Alampur, sought to perform the traditional ritual of breaking coconuts. A clip released by BRS on social media captured the moment Mallu Ravi shoved the MLA aside, exclaiming, "Who are you to break the coconuts?"
BRS MLA and party leaders were present at the event to support the MP’s unveiling of developmental works. Other Congress dignitaries, including AICC General Secretary Sampath Kumar, were also in attendance.
After the MP broke the coconut, BRS leaders urged their MLA to partake in the ritual, yet Congress members demanded precedence. This led to an altercation, during which the MP physically pushed the MLA away.
“This incident is a stark illustration of the degraded political practices that Congress has resorted to in an effort to intimidate opposition voices. The humiliation of an elected MLA in public and the resort to physical aggression reveal the depths to which Congress has fallen,” KTR stated.
The BRS leader remarked that this episode underscores Congress’ blatant disregard for the law, the Constitution, and democratic values.
KTR condemned the incident, demanding an immediate apology from Mallu Ravi. He asserted that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy should accept moral responsibility and take appropriate measures.
“Confrontation with the opposition should happen through the electorate's verdict, not through intimidation. We will not passively witness assaults on BRS leaders. We will robustly respond through democratic avenues,” he declared.
BRS accused Congress leaders of resorting to physical aggression as a reaction to BRS leaders exposing corruption within the ruling party.
BRS officials indicated that the Congress MP was incensed with Vijayaudu for bringing to light the alleged extortion of Rs 8 crore by Sampath Kumar.
