Imphal, Feb 25 (NationPress) A coalition of more than a dozen tribal organizations, spearheaded by the Kuki-Zo Council (KZC), has once again emphasized their call for a distinct administrative structure for the Kuki-Zo tribal communities in the form of a Union Territory under Article 239A of the Indian Constitution. The assembly, dubbed the 'Consultation on Political Roadmap', convened at the Vocational Training Institute auditorium located in Rengkai, Churachandpur.

Numerous leaders from recognized tribal and district organizations participated in this extensive consultation.

KZC Chairman Henlianthang Thanglet publicly reaffirmed the demand for a separate administration in the shape of a Union Territory under Article 239A of the Constitution.

According to KZC's General Secretary, Rev. V.L. Nghakthang, the council was established to address the shared political issues facing the Kuki-Zo tribal groups in Manipur.

He stated, "The current ethnic climate has compelled us to seek a separate administration as a Union Territory within the framework of the Indian Constitution."

A spokesperson for KZC explained that the council envisions a unique administrative entity as a Union Territory under Article 239A, which guarantees safety, welfare, and self-determination as outlined by the Constitution.

The 'Consultation on Political Roadmap' also established a seven-point action plan towards achieving this vision, which was unanimously agreed upon and signed by all delegates, including leaders of various organizations.

The KZC previously indicated its support for the government’s implementation of President’s Rule in Manipur.

KZC Secretary for Information, Khaikhohauh Gangte, expressed optimism that President’s Rule would facilitate appropriate political resolutions and foster peaceful coexistence between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo-Hmar tribes.

President's Rule was enacted in the state following the inability of Ministers, MLAs, and BJP leaders to reach a consensus regarding the successor to Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, who resigned on February 9 amidst intensive discussions with central party officials.
