New Delhi, Oct 31 (NationPress) President Droupadi Murmu on Friday spearheaded the nation in honoring India’s inaugural Deputy Prime Minister and 'Iron Man', Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, on his 150th birth anniversary, commemorated nationwide as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day).

In a message on X, President Murmu expressed, “On the birth anniversary of ‘Iron Man’ Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, I convey my warmest wishes to all my fellow citizens. Sardar Patel was an exceptional patriot, visionary leader, and nation-builder, who achieved the monumental task of unifying the country through his unwavering determination, remarkable courage, and skilled leadership. His commitment and spirit of national service inspire us all. On this occasion of ‘National Unity Day’, let us come together and commit to creating a robust, harmonious, and exemplary India.”

The President also laid floral tributes to Sardar Patel during a ceremony in New Delhi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also honored the Iron Man, referring to him as the architect of India's unification.

“India pays tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his 150th Jayanti. He was the catalyst for India's integration, shaping our nation's trajectory during its foundational years. His steadfast commitment to national integrity, effective governance, and public service continues to motivate generations. We also reiterate our collective resolution to uphold his vision of a united, robust, and self-sufficient India,” the Prime Minister posted on X.

In a video address, the Prime Minister stated, “Sardar Patel possessed an extraordinary ability to unite individuals, even those with differing ideologies. He dedicated his life to the unity of the nation, meticulously observing every detail. He integrated the Indian populace with the freedom movement, worked to incorporate the princely states into our nation, and stirred the essence of unity in diversity among all Indians.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar also paid their respects.

Amit Shah noted on X, “On the occasion of his birth anniversary, I honor the Iron Man Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel ji, a beacon of national unity, integrity, and the empowerment of farmers, on behalf of a grateful nation.”

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh remarked, “He unified not just territories but the very essence of India, laying the groundwork for our national unity and strength.”

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar also shared, “Paying tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his 150th Jayanti. On #RashtriyaEktaDivas, the nation appreciates his vision and leadership that safeguarded our unity and integrity. We also deeply value his contributions as a freedom fighter and a paradigm administrator.”
