Ahmedabad, Oct 21 (NationPress) The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light to moderate rainfall or thundershowers in various parts of South Gujarat and nearby union territories over the upcoming days.
The IMD’s most recent bulletin indicates that regions such as Dang, Tapi, Navsari, Valsad, along with the union territories of Daman, Dadra, and Nagar Haveli, may experience sporadic rainfall until October 25, while the remainder of the state is likely to remain dry.
Post October 25, weather patterns are expected to stabilize, ushering in a period of dry weather across Gujarat. Meteorologists link this unexpected post-monsoon rainfall to the influence of three active weather systems in the area.
These systems consist of a well-defined low-pressure zone over the southeast Arabian Sea, a newly developed low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal, and an upper-air cyclonic circulation lingering off the coast of Kerala.
The IMD noted that the low-pressure system in the southeast Arabian Sea is anticipated to strengthen into a depression within the next 24 hours, moving gradually westward. Concurrently, under the influence of an upper-air cyclonic circulation in the Bay of Bengal, another low-pressure area has emerged over the southwest Bay, reaching up to 7.6 km above mean sea level and is projected to intensify further in the next 36 hours.
Moreover, a cyclonic circulation near the coast of Kerala and a trough stretching from the Arabian Sea to the Bay of Bengal continue to impact atmospheric conditions. Another system over northwest Rajasthan extends into central Madhya Pradesh, and a Western Disturbance at mid-tropospheric levels -- approximately along longitude 66 degrees E and north of latitude 25 degrees N -- remains active.
Overall, meteorological experts suggest that South Gujarat may experience occasional post-monsoon activity throughout the week before skies clear starting October 26, marking a shift towards a dry and stable early winter period for the state. By the end of August, Gujarat had recorded nearly 90 percent of its long-period average (LPA) rainfall, totaling around 792.93 mm compared to a normal of below 882 mm.
Across different regions, rainfall percentages differ: South Gujarat at 93.7 percent of normal, East-Central at about 88.6 percent, Saurashtra at 84.3 percent, and Kutch at 85.1 percent. By early September, some data indicated that the statewide average had surpassed 100 percent of LPA -- for instance, 102.89 percent as of a certain date, with South Gujarat at approximately 108 percent, North Gujarat at 107 percent, and Saurashtra at 91 percent.
