Gandhinagar, May 27 (NationPress) The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has raised an alert concerning heavy rainfall across several districts in Gujarat, effective until Thursday.
The forecast includes light to moderate showers throughout all districts, while southern and coastal areas are expected to face intense rainfall.
As per the latest bulletin from the IMD, areas such as Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Tapi, Amreli, Bhavnagar, and Gir Somnath - in addition to Daman, Diu, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli - are likely to experience heavy rainfall in isolated spots.
Alongside the rain, these regions may encounter moderate thunderstorms, lightning, and surface winds with speeds reaching 50–60 km/h. These conditions are expected to persist until 8:30 a.m. on Thursday.
The weather system is predicted to intensify on Wednesday, with Dahod, Mahisagar, and Chhotaudepur added to the districts under the heavy rain alert.
By Thursday, the IMD anticipates that rainfall will continue in Navsari, Valsad, Tapi, Amreli, and Bhavnagar, although its intensity could begin to decline. A gradual easing of the weather system is expected from May 30 onwards.
Most parts of Gujarat are likely to see a reduction in rainfall, with only light showers expected in Surat, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Tapi, and the union territories of Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, along with some areas of Saurashtra like Amreli, Bhavnagar, and Gir Somnath.
Looking further ahead, light to moderate rainfall or thundershowers may reappear on June 1 and 2 in the southern belt, including Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Tapi, and parts of Saurashtra. Meanwhile, the rest of Gujarat is likely to remain dry through the end of May and early June.
In a broader monsoon update, the IMD noted that the Northern Limit of the Southwest Monsoon currently spans across Mumbai, Pune, Sholapur, Kalaburagi, Mahbubnagar, Kavali, Agartala, and Goalpara, covering portions of the Arabian Sea and northeastern India. Meteorological conditions are reported to be favorable for the monsoon to advance into additional areas in the next 2–3 days.
