Tirupati, Sep 14 (NationPress) Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla visited the Sri Venkateswara Temple at Tirumala in the Tirupati district of Andhra Pradesh on Sunday to offer his prayers.
Upon his arrival, he was warmly received by Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) Chairman B.R. Naidu and other officials.
Following the darshan, the Speaker received Vedic blessings from the priests at the Ranganayakula Mandapam. The TTD Chairman presented him with a sacred shawl (sesha vastram), along with prasadam and holy water.
Accompanying the Lok Sabha Speaker were Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh and Andhra Pradesh Deputy Speaker Raghurama Krishnam Raju.
Om Birla arrived at Tirumala on Saturday evening and spent the night at the Sri Krishna Rest House, where he was welcomed by TTD Additional Executive Officer Ch Venkaiah Chowdary and other officials.
On Sunday, the Lok Sabha Speaker, alongside Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, is set to inaugurate the first national conference on the empowerment of women, focusing on Parliamentary and Legislative committees in Tirupati.
Additionally, the Speaker will inaugurate an exhibition and unveil a souvenir during the event.
Notable attendees include Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha Harivansh Narayan, the Speaker of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly Ayyanna Patrudu, Deputy Speaker Raghurama Krishnam Raju, Lok Sabha Women’s Committee chairperson Daggubati Purandeswari, and chairpersons from various state/UT committees on women’s empowerment.
Over 250 delegates from across the nation are expected to participate in this two-day national conference, centered on the theme of women's leadership for Viksit Bharat.
According to Andhra Pradesh Legislative Secretary General S. Prasanna Kumar, this conference, initiated by the Lok Sabha Speaker, aims to unite women parliamentarians, legislators, and social activists dedicated to women’s empowerment, facilitating an exchange of ideas.
Representatives from the Joint Committee on Women’s Empowerment, which includes 10 Lok Sabha members, 20 Rajya Sabha members, and members from similar committees across various states, will engage in discussions on multiple dimensions of women’s empowerment.
