Key Takeaways
Amaravati, Feb 15 (NationPress) Nara Lokesh, the Andhra Pradesh minister for education and information technology, has expressed his support for a Muslim vendor who was subjected to harassment by a group of YouTubers during the recent Medaram Jatara in Telangana.
Lokesh responded to media reports detailing the harassment faced by Shaik Shaiksha Vali, a vendor from Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh.
Shaik Shaiksha Vali was offering ‘Khoya bun’, a popular delicacy from his region, during the tribal fair in Mulugu district of Telangana.
A contingent of YouTubers coerced Vali into consuming the food he was selling to assert that he was not engaging in what they termed “food jihad”.
“Dear Brother Vali, I sincerely regret that you had to face this ordeal. Such divisive and communal conduct has no place in our Telugu society, which has always championed harmony, mutual respect, and brotherhood,” Lokesh stated on X.
“I am eager to meet you soon and can’t wait to try your renowned Khoya bun! We stand united,” added Lokesh, who serves as the national general secretary of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and is the son of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.
The vendor has garnered support from local residents, along with numerous social media influencers and political organizations, who criticized the YouTubers for their divisive content.
Additionally, Kondapalli Srinivas, the Minister for MSEM, SERP, and NRI empowerment and relations, has also voiced his support for Vali.
“Every diligent individual is entitled to dignity and respect while pursuing their livelihood. Our Telugu community has always been founded on harmony, empathy, and unity, and it is our collective duty to uphold these ideals,” he commented on X, commending Lokesh for his intention to personally connect with Vali. He emphasized the significance of standing by individuals during challenging times.
“Ensuring food safety and public awareness is crucial, but it must be approached with responsibility and sensitivity. Humanity transcends religion, and compassion should guide our actions,” he further remarked.
Previously, AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi vehemently condemned the harassment of a Muslim vendor by certain YouTubers at the Medaram Jatara.
Owaisi called for immediate and strict action against those accountable, asserting that such acts of intimidation and communal targeting are intolerable and must be addressed firmly under the law.
