New Delhi, July 21 (NationPress) As the Monsoon Session of Parliament is about to commence on Monday, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has called upon all members to join forces for the effective operation of the House. He highlighted its vital role in promoting inclusive development, social justice, and the national interest.
In a message on X, Birla stated, "Today marks the start of the fifth session (Monsoon Session) of the 18th Lok Sabha. In this revered temple of democracy, the collaborative role of all representatives is crucial for articulating public aspirations and safeguarding national interests."
He urged political leaders to engage in constructive discussions and uphold a healthy democratic dialogue throughout the session, which is set to continue until August 21.
"Prior to the Monsoon Session, I implore the leaders of all parties and esteemed members to work together to ensure the smooth operation of the House, engage in constructive discussions, and foster healthy democratic dialogue, enabling us to take concrete actions towards inclusive development, social justice, and economic progress," he added.
Expressing optimism for a fruitful session, Birla remarked, "It is anticipated that this Monsoon Session, dedicated to the dignity of democracy, the prestige of Parliament, and the priority of public welfare, will be impactful and successful. Together, we can make substantial contributions towards enhancing democratic consciousness, unity in diversity, and constitutional values."
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to address reporters on the Parliament grounds before the session officially begins.
The session arrives amid a politically charged environment and is likely to be contentious, as the Opposition prepares to raise several divisive issues, including the recent Pahalgam terror attack and the implications of Operation Sindoor.
Just a day prior, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju also called for unity, stressing that both the ruling and Opposition parties share equal responsibility in ensuring the Parliament's effective functioning.
"Despite our political parties having diverse ideologies, it is everyone's duty to guarantee that Parliament operates smoothly. The Opposition has its responsibilities, and the government has its own as well," Rijiju remarked.
