Manchester, July 21 (NationPress) Indian cricket captain Shubman Gill shared insights from his conversation with Bruno Fernandes, the captain of Manchester United, highlighting how both leaders manage pressure on and off the field.
The Indian men’s cricket team participated in a training session alongside the Manchester United football team on Sunday. Captain Gill and his deputy Rishabh Pant were seen donning the Red Devils' jerseys while taking penalties.
“Meeting elite athletes from different sports is incredibly thrilling. Their journeys are motivating, revealing that despite the differences in our sports, our mindsets often align,” Gill stated in a video shared by the Indian cricket team on Instagram.
“Bruno mentioned that while pressure exists, when you are on the field, focusing on external expectations shouldn’t be the priority. Instead, it's about enjoying the game and the sport you are passionate about,” Gill added.
During their discussion on handling pressure, Gautam Gambhir and Bruno shared their philosophies, demonstrating that regardless of their sports' differences, the fundamental principles of teamwork remain consistent.
“Having been here in 2014, this experience is vastly different. Engaging with players, including Ruben, allowed me to explore our shared ideologies regarding team sports. I believe that the player must adapt to the team's needs, rather than the other way around, which is the culture we aim to foster,” Gambhir remarked.
Indian spinner Kuldeep Yadav, a Liverpool fan, conversed with Amorim, inquiring about the tactical formations planned for the upcoming season.
“I’ve followed Ruben since his time at Sporting and questioned him about whether he will continue with the 3-4-3 formation this season. I also had the opportunity to speak with Casemiro about my admiration for his skills,” Kuldeep explained.
While the team enjoyed their outing at Carrington, their attention is shifting towards the Manchester Test amidst injury challenges. On Monday, all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy was ruled out of the remaining two Tests against England due to a left knee injury.
To compound India's difficulties, left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh will miss the fourth Test against England at Manchester. In his stead, Haryana pacer Anshul Kamboj has been called into the squad.
India’s buildup for the fourth Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at Old Trafford, commencing July 23, has faced another setback with fast bowler Akash Deep dealing with an injury.
