Harda (Madhya Pradesh), July 16 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Mohan Yadav, has initiated a probe into the Harda incident where police used a cane-charge against Karni Sena members and students at a hostel during a recent demonstration.
While on a foreign trip to Spain and Dubai since July 13, CM Yadav stated on his social media platform that he has instructed the Harda district administration to thoroughly investigate the incident and provide a comprehensive report.
"In light of the Harda hostel incident, I have requested a detailed report from the district administration. Our government prioritizes social justice and mutual harmony above all else," CM Yadav expressed on X.
Additionally, the Chief Minister emphasized that the government will not tolerate any disruptions to law and order within the state.
"Disruption of social harmony in Madhya Pradesh will not be permitted," Mohan Yadav announced on X.
On Monday, senior Congress figure and former Madhya Pradesh CM, Digvijaya Singh, visited Harda to meet with students who were reportedly subject to cane-charges by police during the protest led by Karni Sena members.
After his discussions with students and members of the Kshatriya community, Singh called for a judicial inquiry, insisting that senior police officials and the Harda district collector should be reassigned.
"The manner in which students, including female students, were cane-charged in the hostel is unacceptable. If police needed to take individuals into custody, they should have done so without resorting to violence," Singh remarked on Monday.
He further stated that a fair and transparent judicial investigation is only feasible if all senior police officials, including the Harda SP, Additional SP, alongside the district collector and SDM, are transferred from the area.
The protest emerged when Karni Sena members demonstrated for the release of their Harda district president, who had been apprehended earlier in connection with a local dispute.
To manage the unrest, police reportedly deployed tear gas shells, utilized water cannons, and resorted to a cane-charge to disperse the crowd.
Over 60 individuals, including Karni Sena national president Jeevan Singh Sherpur, were detained but were subsequently released.
