Bhopal, April 1 (NationPress) To enhance student enrollment in primary and middle schools throughout Madhya Pradesh, the government inaugurated the 'School Chalo Abhiyan' on Tuesday. The campaign, which spans four days (April 1-4), was officially launched by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav in collaboration with State Education Minister Uday Pratap Singh during an event in Bhopal.

This initiative seeks to motivate parents to enroll their children in government schools, tackling the dropout crisis and promoting universal access to education.

During the launch, CM Yadav toured stalls created by students from various schools, engaging with them and commending their involvement in extracurricular activities such as academics, sports, and cultural events.

A report presented during the recent budget session of the Madhya Pradesh Assembly indicates alarming dropout rates among school-aged children, especially within the 15-16 age bracket—where 14.1 percent of this group has left school. Notably, dropout rates are more pronounced among girls at 16.1 percent, compared to boys at 12.2 percent.

For children aged 7-10 years, the dropout rate is significantly lower at 1.9 percent.

Among those aged 11-14 years, 3.2 percent are out of school.

Overall, dropout rates for girls are persistently higher than for boys across all age categories.

In comparison, the national dropout rate for children aged 15-16 years stands at 7.9 percent, which is nearly half of Madhya Pradesh’s 14.1 percent. Similarly, the national dropout figure for children aged 7-10 years is 1.2 percent, lower than MP’s 1.9 percent.

The 'School Chalo Abhiyan' aims to address these concerning trends by raising awareness about the advantages of government schools, enhancing infrastructure, and providing incentives to encourage student retention.
