Chennai, March 10 (NationPress) The Chief Justice of the Madras High Court, K.R. Shriram, on Monday administered the oath of office to Justice R. Shakthivel and Justice P. Dhanabal as permanent judges of the court.

The Supreme Court Collegium had issued a recommendation on February 20 for the appointment of these judges as permanent members of the Madras High Court.

Justice Shakthivel is originally from Karur and earned his Bachelor of Law (BL) from Government Law College, Tiruchirappalli, in 1997. He became an advocate in 1998 and joined the district judiciary in 2011 through direct recruitment. Throughout his career, he has acted as a district judge in various locations across Tamil Nadu. His roles have included serving as the Additional District Judge in Thanjavur and Coimbatore, later ascending to Principal District Judge of Coimbatore and Krishnagiri. He has also held significant administrative roles, such as the Administrative General and Official Trustee (AGOT) of Tamil Nadu, and was the Registrar General of the Madras High Court.

Justice Dhanabal, also from Karur, completed his Bachelor of Law degree in 1998 at Tiruchirappalli. He enrolled as an advocate the same year and entered the judicial service in 2011. He began his career as an Additional District Munsiff and was promoted to Additional District Sub Judge in Dharmapuri. His judicial experience includes serving as III Additional District Judge, II Additional District Judge, and I Additional District Judge of Tirunelveli. He has also contributed to the judiciary in Cuddalore and Puducherry. Furthermore, he has held the title of Registrar General of the Madras High Court.

On February 12, the President appointed Justice Venkatachari Lakshminarayanan and Justice Periyasamy Vadamalai, both of whom were serving as Additional Judges of the Madras High Court, to permanent judgeships. Their appointments will take effect from the date they assume office. The Supreme Court Collegium, led by Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna, recommended their appointments during its meeting on February 5.
