Mumbai, June 26 (NationPress) Maharashtra's Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis instructed the administration on Thursday to ensure that all infrastructure projects are finalized within three years, emphasizing that no project in the state should be delayed.
The individuals affected by the Thane to Borivali double tunnel project are to be permanently rehabilitated. The Chief Minister also mandated the completion of this double tunnel project by December 2028.
Today, he reviewed the progress of the Thane to Borivali double tunnel initiative. He mentioned that the tunnel will stretch 11.84 kilometers and insisted on maintaining air circulation within it. Immediate action should be taken to create additional space in the Sanjay Gandhi National Park.
He highlighted that approvals from the Forest Department for the second phase of the project and permission for nighttime work should be secured.
To expedite work on the Borivali side and assist the project-affected individuals there, an action plan must be implemented, with completion targeted within a month.
He also directed that the relevant agencies should collaborate and assign an officer to facilitate the rehabilitation of project victims, either through rent assistance or alternative housing projects.
“The designated officer must take action within a month to finalize the rehabilitation,” he asserted.
A government official noted that the Thane to Borivali double tunnel will be constructed in two sections: a 5.75 km package on the Borivali side and a 6.09 km package on the Thane side, totaling Rs 12,057 crore in anticipated costs.
This includes Rs 6,178 crore for package one and Rs 5,879 crore for package two. Upon completion, the project is expected to reduce carbon emissions by 1.4 lakh metric tons annually.
“Currently, traveling from Thane to Borivali takes about one to one and a half hours. Once the tunnel is finished, this duration will be reduced to just 15 minutes, resulting in significant fuel savings,” he added.
