Mumbai, Jan 22 (NationPress) Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis initiated a new program aimed at accelerating the justice process by addressing the backlog of pending cases.

This program focuses on improving the justice delivery system to ensure that justice is served more swiftly.

With a renewed emphasis on rapid justice under updated criminal laws, pending cases in forensic science laboratories are being resolved more quickly, greatly enhancing the efficiency of the justice system.

A government statement revealed that Chief Minister Fadnavis has mandated a special campaign to tackle the backlog of cases at the Directorate of Forensic Science Laboratories.

Through consistent monitoring, the Chief Minister is ensuring continuous progress in case resolution.

In 2025, the Directorate had an astonishing 1.81 lakh pending cases, while it received 2.94 lakh new cases.

Thanks to the special initiative, by December 2025, a total of 3,96,879 cases were successfully resolved, bringing the outstanding cases down to 79,542.

This initiative also saw an uplift in operational standards across all departments.

Every officer and staff member of the Directorate extended their working hours from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and even worked on public holidays to tackle the backlog.

While the available workforce could handle approximately 2 to 2.15 lakh cases, following the Chief Minister's instructions, 3,96,879 cases were effectively addressed.

This number includes the resolution of an additional 1,02,413 cases beyond the existing backlog.

By December 2025, the 'Conventional Forensic' division alone cleared 3,96,275 cases, amidst an inflow of 27,524 new cases.

Starting February 2026, case analyses will begin the same day they are received, which will help eliminate delays and ensure that long-standing cases are resolved promptly, allowing victims to access justice much quicker.

Pending cases within the Computer Crime, Cyber, Audio, and Audio-Visual divisions are also being expedited.

As the justice delivery system becomes more efficient, victims will no longer endure lengthy waits for justice.

The Directorate of Forensic Science Laboratories is pivotal in facilitating expedited justice, as stated by the government.

Recognizing this, Chief Minister Fadnavis has highlighted the need to further strengthen the Directorate.

'Mobile Forensic Vans' will now be available at every Sub-Divisional Police Officer's office throughout the state.

These collective efforts are significantly enhancing the speed and efficiency of the justice delivery system.
